Livox Quarry is one of the many places on the banks of the River Severn closed to the public. Near the river’s mouth, the water is laden with sediment. Yet on its fringes translucent ponds reveal the life that thrives within.
This image is part of Where The Flow Ends, a series documenting the Severn, the longest and most polluted river in the UK. Along its course, human life, industry and nature rise and fall over time, echoing the tides of the Bristol Channel.

Caroline Charrel is a French photographer and artist. With a background in architecture, she specialised in the making of images including film photography, digital works and hand-drawings.
Her photography is focused on the ways people shape, project and memorise spaces. After assisting Hélène Binet in her London studio, she now works primarily with film photography.
