Osaka, Japan, 2019
by Caroline Charrel

Taken on the way to Osaka Castle, this photo presents something less grand than the tourist-centric parts of the city, something closer to the daily life of young Osakans. What captures the eye here is the way school uniforms feed the wider aesthetic of the place. The sense of order they contribute to feels surreal within a metropolis and so does the gentle quietness of the scene. Only the presence of modern accessories grounds this moment to the present.
